ABOUT IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY SCHOOL

Immaculate Heart of Mary School is a co-educational, Catholic PreK – 8th grade school located in Towson, MD. For nearly 70 years, IHM has educated a diverse community of students who grow and learn in a community of Faith. Grounded in the Immaculate Heart of Mary, their Catholic educational community aspires to nurture students who think critically as they lead and serve their diverse local and global communities.

Unique School Characteristics

Immaculate Heart of Mary School (IHM) in the Baynesville area of Towson has been educating children in the Baltimore area for nearly 70 years. Their student enrollment is made up of 287 students that come from 30 zip codes in the Baltimore area. Their diverse population of students represents different faiths, socio-economic and demographic backgrounds. IHM believes in educating the whole child – mind, body and spirit.

School Traditions

Immaculate Heart of Mary School has many traditions that their community looks forward to each school year. Every Friday their students enjoy celebrating mass with their classmates. They always look forward to Grandparents Day celebrated each school year, usually in the fall. A day of friendly competition takes place in the spring when their students participate in Field Day! And a tradition that is long withstanding is a Day of Service. This day allows for a grades PreK – 8 to give back to the community. Their school motto is “Remember no matter what the day holds, work with all your heart”

Campus and Facilities

In September 1951, IMH welcomed their first class onto campus and they will be celebrating their 70th school year in 2021. Immaculate Heart of Mary School is conveniently located on the corner of Loch Raven Blvd. and Putty Hill Avenue in Towson, MD.

Class Offerings

Students at Immaculate Heart of Mary School enjoy a values-based, Catholic education in a nurturing, safe and friendly environment. Their dedicated faculty and staff work together with their community of parents and volunteers to promote academic excellence and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. Their students are challenged and engaged daily through core instruction that includes English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Religion. Their students also participate in Special classes that include Art, Library, Music, Physical Education, Technology, and Spanish.

Extracurriculars

Students at Immaculate Heart of Mary School enjoy the many extracurricular activities that are offered. These include Eco club, drama club, band, student council, National Junior Honor Society, National Junior Art Society, cross country, golf, basketball, soccer, cheerleading, community outreach, Scouts, chorus and Science Explorers. There is something for everyone!

What Might Parents Be Surprised to Learn About Your School?

Prospective students and parents are surprised to find out that IHM is not just a school, but is a community. At the beginning of each school year, all new families are connected with an ambassador family. The ambassador family is there to help the new family navigate those first couple of months in a new school community. It doesn’t take long for families to feel right at home at IHM.
